Samza Round-Up - 8/18/2022
September is less than two weeks away; where has summer gone? As the season winds down, I put together some interesting articles and a GREAT podcast for you this week; enjoy!
This Week's Round-Up
Should You Spend Time on a Side Hustle or Your Job?
This was a great reminder for me to take a step back and remind myself of the things I like doing and develop a strategy around them. If you are trying to make money, it's easy to burn out by trying to start something you aren't interested in. Good read.
6 Alternative Investments for Bear Markets
Feel like you can't win in the stock market? Read this short article. The author talks about investments such as wine, art, and real estate, all utilizing crowd-sourced platforms that are available to anyone with $100 or more. I even clicked around some of these sites and checked out my options. Check them out!
How to Recession Proof Your Finances
Staying on the recession theme, here's an interesting piece about building some safeguards around your finances during economic times like today. Tactics include building an emergency fund, investing in appreciating assets, and building that income. A good reminder, if nothing else.
Seven Ways to Earn an Income without a 9-5
As I normally do, I'm including an article that lists out a few ideas for side hustles. Here's the deal: a lot of these articles might have some of the same ideas, but I almost always pull something from the article even if I've heard all of the ideas before. Plus, this one is well-written.
Idea of the Week - Trash Collecting
I know, I know; you didn't sign up for this newsletter to be told to pick up trash. But the money just might convince you otherwise. The owner of this 6-figure business started off simply trying to bring in an extra $1,000 a month by pitching commercial property owners and asking them to clean their parking lots for a fixed price each month. After finding some clients, he discovered the upside in the model, and ended up making this side hustle his main thing in a few years.
While the scale at which Blademir achieved financial freedom and a 6-figure business might be aggressive for some, building a service-business like his is absolutely in reach for the average person willing to make some cold calls and connections. Check out the article below!
Podcast of the Week - Freakonomics Radio
Stephen Dubner, armed with his quick voice and incredible knowledge, wrote the book Freakonomics and continued his journey with this podcast, which is one of my current favorites. The host and guest[s] explore a variety of topics, talking through anything from the blockchain's uses to what makes the U.S. different from the rest of Earth. Highly, highly recommend adding this to your podcast rotation; it's impossible not to at least gain some excellent trivia knowledge!
